“Education should be given the priority attention, it deserves to empower the youth to enable them to be self-reliant and contribute towards the development of the country,” Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has urged the Federal Government to prioritize education so as to make Nigerian youths self-reliant.
The Emir, who was recently appointed the new Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) made the call on Monday at the formal presentation of his appointment letter into the position at his palace.
He said only with education will the youth be able to contribute their quota to the nation.
“Education should be given the priority attention, it deserves to empower the youth to enable them to be self-reliant and contribute towards the development of the country,” Sanusi said.
The former CBN governor said quality, not quantity should be the focus.
“We should not mind the number of universities but the quality of education the universities give to our youth to make them self-reliant.’’.
Sanusi appreciated his appointment and promised to contribute the development of the university.
The Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, who presented the letter, said the “appointment is an honour done to Kano, myself and the Emir who is the father of all of us.”
President Goodluck Jonathan only last week approved the appointment of new Chancellors for all the 38 Federal Universities in the country.
