2,680 Batch ‘A’ Corps Members Deployed To Rivers State

A total of 2,680 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members have been deployed to Rivers State, for the compulsory one-year service.

The corpers, who comprised 1,165 males and 1,515 females, took the oath of allegiance to observe the rules and regulations guiding the NYSC, at their permanent Orientation Camp in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area of the state.
In a message to the corps members, President Goodluck Jonathan, declared that government would not relent until the country was safe for all.

He said: “Through the patriotic and courageous efforts of our armed forces, combined with the right equipment and strategy, we have made remarkable progress in the fight against insurgency, and we will not relent, until all parts of the country are safer for our people and for national service.

“I believe that the next government will continue to support and encourage corps members by fulfilling its statutory obligations to the scheme and providing a peaceful atmosphere for optimal performance of corps members wherever they are.

“Our government has been committed to supporting the NYSC scheme and positioning it firmly, as a leading light of youth organisations in the world. I will expect that the necessary appropriation will continue to be provided to sustain the gains of the service corps, and also to provide for the welfare and security needs of all corps members throughout the nation”, Jonathan said.
