Everyone has a favorite way of receiving notifications on their mobile devices. Some prefer a theme song set to blare at full volume, others are okay with a slow, gentle vibration.
There is a new notification option for iPhone users that is cool and conservative. Most users only about the three most common notification options: ring, silent and vibrate, or a combination of the three. But there is an additional option to enable the LED light on the back of your phone to flash in patterns for alerts.
This may not be news to iPhone Pros, but it is a unique way to differentiate your notifications from those of people in your group, especially if you all use iPhones.
To make use of this feature on your iPhone, tap ”Settings” on your home screen.
play iPhone Home Menu screen
Under settings, tap the “General” tab to open up the general settings for your phone.
play Settings Menu
Once you’re under the general tab, the next step is to tap on the “Accessibility” tab.
play General Settings Menu
Finally, to enable the LED notification for your phone, tap or slide the slider next to the phrase “LED flash for alerts”, which will be found under the “Hearing” header. Sliding the button right, turning it green, will enable the feature, while sliding it to the left will disable the feature.
play Accessibility Menu
Once all that is done, you can go back to your home screen and expect to see you LED light flash when next you receive a call or text.
This feature is available on iPhone 4 or later, running iOS 5 and later. There are options for customizable settings but the LED will flash three times when you receive a standard notification like a text message, and it will flash non-stop if it’s an incoming call until the call is answered or the caller drops the call.
