Jonathan’s FG Cannot Compete With Kano in Awarding Scholarship — Kwankwaso

Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano has said his government had performed better in the award of scholarships than the Federal Government, even with much less resources.
Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said the President Goodluck Jonathan led Federal Government (FG) cannot compete with his government in terms of scholarship awards.

According to a Daily Trust report, Kwankwaso made the claim while addressing 250 students sponsored by his administration for studies at the Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo state.

Represented by his media aide, Mallam Halilu Ibrahim Dantiye, Kwankwaso said though the Federal Government has more funds at his disposal, his government’s scholarship awards are much more.

“Despite the fact that the federal government collects more than what the 36 states get from the federation account, it cannot compete with the Kano State government in terms of giving foreign and local scholarships to students,” he said.

The governor also said students from Kano state have not benefited much from the FG sponsored scholarships.

“As far as I am concerned, I cannot mention five students from Kano that have benefitted from the so-called federal scholarships.

“Yet, as a state government, we have sponsored over 2, 600 students to 14 countries for mainly postgraduate courses while we have sponsored thousands of students to study in our local private universities.”

In 2014, the Kano State Government reported that it spent N12 billion to sponsor 2,600 students of the state studying in foreign institutions.
