The Senior Special Assistant (Media and Publicity) to President Muhammadu Buhari, Garba Shehu, has explained why the ministerial list of President Buhari is not out yet.
Shehu, who was responding to a question on national television last night on the seeming delay in the announcement of the President’s cabinet, said the ministerial appointees would be subject to the approval of the National Assembly which is currently not in session.
He assured that as soon as the National Assembly reconvenes, the list would be forwarded to both chambers for approval.
Garba declined to speak further on the issue, adding that now that the President has moved into Aso Rock, Nigerians would see more action.
Nigerians have been eagerly waiting for President Buhari to constitute his cabinet, with some impatient citizens and opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, saying the President has not hit the ground running.
Meanwhile, the 8th National Assembly is expected to reconvene on Tuesday, 23 June. It went on recess shortly after it was constituted amid rancour occasioned by the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President and Yakubu Dogara as Speaker of the House of Representatives on 9 June.
The crisis Saraki and Dogara’s emergence precipitated is yet to abate within the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
