Why Buhari Should Be Our Next President – Former Abia Governor

gbonnaya Onu, the former governor of Abia state, explained why Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, should be voted for.

The politician made his position known in an interview in Abuja, The Nation reports. Onu characterized Buhari as a man of honesty and sincerity capable of getting Nigeria out of the woods.

In his opinion, the former military head of state possesses great antecedents and good virtues that speak volumes. He added that with Buhari’s commitment to eliminating corruption, it would become possible to deal with violence and security challenges in the country.

“We felt we needed the competition in the political arena and we believe things have not been going on in the right way. The level of insecurity has never been as bad as it is now in the country as well as unemployment, corruption and poor infrastructure.

“If Nigerians have not enjoyed 16 years of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led administration, the people now have a better alternative where they can exercise their franchise.”

The former Abia governor expressed confidence that the opposition party would lift Nigeria to the new level, to its rightful position in the comity of nations, if elected. Therefore he urged Nigerians to vote for the APC to witness the real change.

“We’ll ensure the level of corruption is brought down and we w’ll draw a line. The reason it is important to reduce corruption in the country is that if we do not do that, we will not have enough resources to work on infrastructures, schools, create jobs and we are committed to ensure that those who cannot help themselves are taken care of.”

The official also praised the Nigerian military that have carried out numerous successful operations on the recapture of the towns previously seized by Boko Haram insurgents.

On the other side, the criticized the Federal Government for taking decisive action too late, adding that lives and properties could have been saved if they had earlier taken the appropriate steps.

“With what has happened, I feel very bad that we had to allow so much sufferings, a lot of sufferings and unimaginable sufferings. It is really sad what they have been allowed to go through.”
