The Department of State Security Service (DSS) has returned security details to Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who were withdrawn from him a few months back Daily Trust reports. Continue reading initial story.
According to The Cable, sources at the DSS headquarters said the operatives were asked to return to their “assignment” after a reconsideration by the authorities.
No further details were disclosed as the operatives resumed work around 5pm on Wednesday, March 11.
Update: Today, on March 12, Punch confirmed all his DSS details have been restored for sure.
“The men were led by the Speaker’s Chief Security Officer. All the details returned intact”, it was informed.
After contacted Mr. Imam Imam, it was also confirmed the Speaker’s DSS details had been restored.
However, it should be noted Aminu Tambuwal’s police security stuff have not been regained.
Tambuwal, who later emerged as the APC’s governorship candidate in Sokoto State, remained without official security protection until Wednesday.
For now the Speaker is often seen moving around the country accompanied with his personal aides.
Tambuwal had been away to Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser Hajj and returned to Nigeria yesterday afternoon to meet the security personnel, including the chief security officer and chief detail.
It would be recalled that on November 3, 2014 after Aminu Tambuwal announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC) on October 28 DSS withdrew its operatives without giving any official explanation.
The police and DSS withdrew their men from the Speaker, following his October 28, 2014 defection to the All Progressives Congress from the People’s Democratic Party.
The Speaker also has been having a running battle with the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, for refusing to recognise him as Speaker, arguing that by defecting to the APC, Tambuwal has lost his membership of the House of Representatives.
