The 2015 edition of the largest international five-a-side football championship, World Football Fives, F5WC, is scheduled to hold in Dubai in April with representatives from different parts of the globe, including Nigeria.
The Nigerian Regional, whose winner will represent the country in the United Arab Emirates, takes off on Friday, March 20 and ends on March 22, at the green turf of Liberty Pitch at the National Stadium, Surulere.
NewAge Sports Africa, local organizers of the competition and exclusive rights holders to the global championship, announced final preparations have begun for the Friday take off.
Shamsudeen Yusuf, chairman of the LOC, confirmed that numerous teams have shown interest in the championship with well over 120 registrations received, beating the minimum 100 required by the tournament’s main organizer in Dubai.
Registered teams will face off in a knockout stage in the preliminaries to determine the final 32 teams that will go into the competitive stage for the top prize.
The F5WC is a global initiative for grooming amateur talents in football, exposing them to international limelight where they can be spotted by club scouts from different parts of the world.
Only players who are Nigerian residents are qualified to take part in this competition, regardless of their nationality.
