F’Eagles trash Senegal

The Flying Eagles began their campaign in the 2015 African Youth Championship on a good note on Sunday, beating hosts Senegal 3-1.
The Manu Garba-led team took a 2-0 lead to show their dominance in the first half before the hosts pulled one back before the break.

The highly rated Nigerians, who were winners of the Glo League Super Four tournament organised by the League Management Company last month, took the lead through Taiwo Awoniyi in the eighth minute. He doubled the lead three minutes later.

The hosts drew one back in the 26th minute through Sidy Sarr, but the Nigerians kept the game out of their reach when Ifeanyi Matthews struck in the 43rd minute.

Nigeria will next play Congo on March 11 before facing Ivory Coast three days later to complete their group games.

Meanwhile, Nigerian players in Europe have continued to grab the headlines. In England, Sheyi Ojo has expressed his sadness over Wigan Athletics’ 1-0 loss to Leeds United in the English Championship on Saturday.

The winger, who is on loan from Liverpool, was a part of the team which lost to Leeds United at the DW Stadium as he played the entire duration of the match.

Eighteen-year-old Ojo, who has yet to score for Wigan in his seven appearances, expressed his sadness on twitter after the loss.

“Such a disappointing game… Deserved all three points but just wasn’t our day! Time to bounce back now vs Rotherham next game! #Faith,” he tweeted.

Wigan are 22nd in the log with 31 points from 36 matches.

Ahmed Musa scored twice for CSKA Moscow as they defeated Terek Grozyi 2-1 as the Russian Premier League resumed on Saturday.

Musa struck in the 45th and 76th minutes to send CSKA to the second spot in the league.

Musa now has 10 goals for the club in all competitions this season and is the spearhead of their attack since the departure of Seydou Doumbia to Roma in January.

Also Aaron Samuel was on target in the Chinese Super League in Guagzhou R&F’s 2-1 win over Hangzhou on Saturday as the new league season began.

In Israel, Hapoel Beer Sheva fans have expressed their support for Nigerian midfielder, John Ogu, for his performance in the club’s 1-1 draw against Hapoel Haifa on Saturday.

Goals from Maaran Laala and Dovev Gabay in the ninth and 81st minutes ensured both sides shared the spoils.

The fans, who expressed their support on twitter, praised Ogu for helping the team achieve their place so far on the log.

Ogu has made 24 appearances for Beer Sheva and has four goals since joining them from Academica de Coimbra in the summer.
