A host of armed robbers reportedly stormed Owo town in Ondo state on Thursday, March 26, attacking banks and residents of the town.
According to reports, a bank manager was shot dead in the operation that lasted about two hours.
It was also gathered that other people, including onlookers and passersby were killed and several other injured, and one of the banks attacked was reportedly set ablaze.
It was not ascertained what the robbers carted away but it is believed they made away with large sums of money from the banks.
Punch reported that the robbers came into the town through the Abuja-Owo road area at about 5pm, quoting residents’ account.
The report said the robbers shot sporadically into the air until they got to the heart of the town, where three banks were robbed.
According to the Police Commissioner of the state, Isaac Eke, who spoke to Premium Times, the situation has been brought under control.
